Early medieval ring pin
This specific pin was forged based on archeological findings from Opole-Ostrówek, Poland.
The original pin is dated XII century. This types of pins were probably worn by the belt as tools - they were hung similarly to knives and flints. A famous polish archeology professor J. Żak suggest in his works the following possible usage of ring pins:
'1. They were used as cloak pins
2. They could be used as cutlery
3. They were used as a stylus or for marking tally sticks'
